Maruti Suzuki is preparing YTB – its upcoming compact SUV. The vehicle’s powertrain, specifically the 1-liter Booster Jet engine, has also been verified.
After being removed off shelves more than two and a half years ago, the Booster Jet is about to return with a vengeance. The Baleno RS, the last model to use the turbo gasoline engine, will be phased out in January 2020, just in time for the implementation of BS 6 requirements.
It will make its global debut at the upcoming Auto Expo that’s slated for January, 2023, and will go on sale in the subsequent February 2023
In its heyday, the 1-liter, 3-cylinder Booster Jet engine could generate 100 hp at 5500 rpm and 150 nm from 1700 rpm all the way up to 4500 rpm. It came mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
Our crew had reached 170 kilometre per hour in fourth gear on a straight at the BIC racetrack, indicating that the Baleno RS still had plenty of power to spare. Once the turbo lag was overcome, the acceleration when really in gear was rather respectable as well.
However, it remains to be seen what the engine has to offer in the BS 6 age. A power and torque loss is offered and the corporation may improve on the other categories like fuel efficiency, NVH, and city driveability. Sources indicated the engine might obtain company’s Mild Hybrid tech this time.
