For their forthcoming September tour of India, which will include both red and white ball series, New Zealand revealed on Friday a strong ‘A’ team, which includes seven cricketers with international experience.
In 2018, New Zealand ‘A’ travelled to the United Arab Emirates to play Pakistan ‘A’ on an away trip. This will be the first time New Zealand ‘A’ has played an international match outside of Oceania.
During the India trip, there will be three matches of four days’ duration, as well as three matches of one day’s duration, played in Bangalore and Chennai. A New Zealand A final trip to India was in 2017.
The 15-man group includes veterans like Chad Bowes and Matt Fisher as well as rookies like Ben Lister, Robbie O’Donnell, and Joe Walker, who would be making their New Zealand ‘A’ debuts.
For this trip, we have appointed Tom Bruce (Central Districts) and O’Donnell (Auckland) as joint captains. On August 26th, New Zealand’s ‘A’ flight will leave for India.
New Zealand selector Gavin Larsen stated in a statement, “It’s excellent to have A fixtures back on the touring calendar, and even more thrilling to see the squad playing in foreign conditions.”
“The opportunity to observe the players in a variety of circumstances against what we expect to be a very good home team is enhanced by the fact that there will be both red ball and white ball matches.
“In preparation for upcoming trips and ICC competitions in the subcontinent, the circumstances provide a fantastic chance for the spin bowling unit in particular.
He said, “I know the players and staff are looking forward to the challenge, and touring India is one of the finest experiences for any cricketer.”
Players like Mark Chapman, Jacob Duffy, and Dane Cleaver, who excelled with the BLACKCAPS in the most recent series in Europe, are a part of this squad.
Tom Bruce (Central Districts) and Robbie O’Donnell (Auckland) are the captains, while Chad Bowes (Canterbury), Joe Carter (Northern Districts), Mark Chapman (Auckland), Dane Cleaver (wk) (Central Districts), Jacob Duffy (Otago), Matt Fisher (Northern Districts), Cameron Fletcher (wk) (Canterbury), Ben Lister (Auckland), Rachin Ravindra (Northern Districts).
