The video game studio Weta Interactive is working with Take-Two Interactive on a new Lord of the Rings title. Both studios have committed to working on the game, which is set in the fantasy world of Middle-earth and has been adapted several times for the big and small screens.
TechRadar claims the developer behind The Outer Worlds, Hades, and OlliOlli World will get their own video game published under the Take-Two label. The partnership between Private Division and Weta Workshop was just announced via a tweet from the company’s official account.
A new Lord of the Rings video game has been released, but what exactly is it?
Amie Wolken, head of interactivity at WotW, has hinted to the upcoming game when discussing the collaboration with Private Division on their website. According to Wolken, “one that’s so distinct from anything fans have played before” describes the unannounced Lord of the Rings game. Very little is known about the game beyond the fact that it is situated in Middle-earth.
Availability of a New Lord of the Rings Video Game
The game is reportedly still in its early stages of production, thus there is no estimated release date at this time. However, the source predicts that this project will begin “during 2024.” Since Take-Two is a multiplatform publisher, and the release window suggests that the game will appear on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, the report conveys.
New Middle-earth Video Games
The Lord of the Rings: War in the North and Middle-earth: Shadow of War, two of the first adaptations, focus more heavily on action. However, the source couldn’t reveal the creators’ precise intentions and hints that the forthcoming game could be different from the previous ones. The story continues by saying that Lord of the Rings Online and LEGO The Hobbit give a lighter take on the Middle-earth saga.
In addition, this year will see the publication of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, an adaptation focused on the events of the first few chapters of The Fellowship of the Ring. According to the source, Nacon and Daedalic Entertainment will release the game.
According to the source, gamers will switch between controlling Gollum and Sméagol (his previous self) during the game’s stealth and platforming parts. However, the release of Gollum has since been pushed back to late 2022.
